I so looked forward to this book I so looked forward to this book and everything else Shalini Boland writes. Seriously, I’d be hard pressed to find a Psych Thriller author I like more. Thank you for another winning story (that kept me up ‘til 2am, because I.had.to.know!!) Can’t wait for the next one, and the next.....!In the meantime, I am re-reading this one. Boland has a knack for portraying a story one way and then spinning it on its head so I’m compelled to go re-read to find the clues I’d missed in the first read. Amazing, seriously magical writing and editing. Thanks again!unreliable narrator? This book was fine until the end. The constant "she was sooo worried about her missing son; would she ever see him again?" claims were a bit too much, in my opinion. Of course a mother with a missing son would be worried about her son --- no need to say so on every page. Say it once or twice, fine. But what really got me was the ending, and I'm so sorry to spoil it, but***SPOILER ALERT***the constant refrain "she was so worried about her son!" ended up being a lie. She was not worried. She knew exactly where her son was. If the narrator were not presenting the mother's perspective, this would have been a really effective twist. But if the book is going to claim to be presenting the mother's perspective, at least be internally consistent. You can't say that the mother is SO worried (dozens and dozens of times) when in fact the mother has in fact orchestrated every detail of the event. Finally, the end of the book just felt really rushed and expositional, like "oh, here's an explanation of how everything happened! He wasn't kidnapped after all! It was his mom!" instead of revealing it through the plot.Overall, I enjoyed the book for the most part until the ending, then I felt a bit miffed at the way the problem had been framed.My New Favorite Author I started reading Shalini Boland and realized quickly that her books are all can’t put downers!! The Marriage Betrayal is no exception. I’m hoping she has another novel soon to come out, I will be buying everything Shalini Boland writes!!
